LEADERSHIP IN INNOVATION: COMMUNICATION, DIVERSITY AND CREATIVITY
by S. C. Kitsopoulos
Abstract - The ability to innovate is one of the main factors that distinguish the highly successful enterprise from the ordinary one. Innovation depends on the application of individual and team creativity to the task at hand. Creativity in the team depends on open communication as well as understanding of ourselves and of our diversity.
We discuss the essence of interpersonal communication, borrowing partly from sociobiology.
We talk about people diversity in a way that cuts through the traditional barriers of culture, race, ethnicity, language etc., based on Jungian psychological typology. We then look at creativity as a process that is intimately intertwined with communication and diversity. Effective leaders strive to understand the process of creativity and to learn how to overcome or bypass obstacles in its way.
